Happy Friday team. Looks like there will still be a bit of wind and rain about. But it has definitely eased after yesterday’s howling wind experience of hair raising proportions. I went for a surf at Red Beach. Hardly had to paddle On to the waves. The wind acted as a giant hand gently guiding me down the face of the wave. I turned a blind eye to the Watercare report. I like to think of it as building my immunities. Although, Orewa estuary looked like Willy Wonka’s chocolate river, begging to devour anyone willing to get close. #awr #aucklandweatherreport #auckland #aucklandlife #aucklandweather #aucklandcity #aucklandairport #nz #newzealand #weather #meteorology #metservicenz #metservice #rain #snow #kiwi #kiwiana #whittakers #whittakerschocolate #whittakerskbar #kbar

Wow what a wild night, I just read this on the NZ herald website: ‘It's been a night of destruction as a cocktail of intense rain and gales ripped trees from the ground, blocking roads and downing powerlines. Deluges after dark also caused homeowners grief as flash floods spilled into properties.’ Great day to apply the ‘work from home method.’

In other news the Auckland volcanic field made some rumbles yesterday with 3-4 small shallow earthquakes out in the ocean between little barrier and Whangaparaoa.

Get ready team! The antique rimu wooden barometer on my kitchen wall is starting show signs of impending weather doom. Today around lunchtime we we start to see a bit of rain. By tonight the wind will kick in and starting lashing all east coast beaches. Somewhere around 4am Thursday there will be gusts of up to 90km and about 34mm of rain. Get the kids out on their bikes and skateboards for one last ride before we settle into 7 days of rain. As a dad I recommend you tie down your trampoline. Such a dad thing to say, but having to ask for your Trampoline back after it smashed through Johns carport roof is always awkward.
